So say charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio.

Shifted is the trio’s fifth release including its eponymous 2010 debut. The trio – whose music fuses folk, newgrass, classical and rock stylings – is comprised of Jordana Greenberg (violin, vocals), Rebecca Reed-Lonn (banjo, vocals) and Maria Di Meglio (cello, vocals). The three met while students at Indiana University’s noted Jacobs School of Music, from which they each received performance degrees.

The August 2015 FOLKDJ-L charts are based on 12, 987 airplays from 134 different DJs. The number of reported spins (airplays) is shown below in parentheses, while label and release date appear in brackets. They are posted on AcousticMusicScene.com, with permission.

Pete Seeger, the American folk music icon who died last January at 94, was the most-played artist.

The 2014 year-end FOLKDJ-L charts are based on 159,806 airplays from 184 different DJs. The number of reported spins (airplays) is shown in parentheses, while label and release dates appear in brackets. Like the monthly Top Albums charts, these are posted on AcousticMusicScene.com with permission.

Top Albums and Songs of November 2014 (FOLKDJ-L) https://acousticmusicscene.com/2014/12/04/top-albums-and-songs-of-november-2014-folkdj-l/ Thu, 04 Dec 2014 05:05:41 +0000 http://acousticmusicscene.com/?p=7928 The Rose of No Man’s Land by Nell Robinson was the most-played album on folk radio during November 2014 according to charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio.

Nell Robinson (Hillary Perkins) is an Alabama native who has drawn comparisons to early Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton and Hazel Dickens. She paid homage to her southern roots by adopting the name of her grandmother. “Family,” the title track of a collection of all new songs performed by members of the luminary British folk family –- Teddy Thompson, his parents Richard and Linda, younger sister Kami and her husband James Walbourne, and nephew Zak Hobbs –- was reportedly the month’s most-played song.

The November 2014 FOLKDJ-L charts are based on 14,097 airplays from 149 different DJs. The number of reported spins (airplays) is shown in parentheses, while label and release dates appear in brackets. They are posted with permission on AcousticMusicScene.com.
